Are You Reading Labels?

Be mindful of Labels!

Have you ever noticed how often we use labels?  Every time we are at the grocery store we pick up a can of something to read what is inside.

Below is a video of one of my Facebook friends; he is AWESOME!  And he teaches others how to be awesome.  He talks to us in this video about labeling of another sort.

It is so easy for us to label ourselves, our loved ones, even strangers, according to the food we eat:  vegan, raw, vegetarian, SAD (standard american diet).

I know labels can help.  People ask me how I eat and it is tough.  I’m sort of vegan, certainly I stay away from the SAD as much as possible.  But I do eat meat, and I like it, I just don’t eat a lot.  I like Traci’s label of “best foodist” : eating the best of what is available.

So sometimes a label might be helpful.  But how often do we label a family member “a meat and potato kind of guy”?  How often am I surprised by what my husband likes?  Quite often!

Do we ever hold back from offering veggies or a salad because we think, “He won’t like that”?  The label we have placed on that person actually keeps up from feeding them healthier.

And what type of label have we given ourselves?  “I better not try eating healthy because I always fail?” or “I’m so fat (or unhealthy, or struggling, or ____________).  I think this video is a great reminder to be aware of the things we are telling ourselves.

In the end, we do the best we can, where we can, with what we have available to us, one step at a time.  Let us celebrate our efforts and recognize that we are amazing because we are working at it!

Enjoy the video!  =) Linda
