Have you heard about making homemade kefir? It has been a most valuable addition to my morning smoothie and I want to share my basic recipe with you!
Before I tell you how I put my super energizing smoothie together I will share some links for how to make the kefir.
My friend, Myra, showed me how to do it and shared some of hers with me.
She tells how to do a second firmentation and has beautiful pictures! Here is her link:
Also, Myra shared a link for a site with additional useful information. Here it is for easy reference:
And here is a link to more info and where you can purchase kefir grains.
I hope you have a chance to learn more about making Kefir. Now here is WHY I will continue making kefir and adding it to my smoothies followed with the HOW:
Drinking my quart of smoothie daily has proven to me that I do have more energy!!! I was wondering just how much of a difference it was making.
Then I dropped my blender. And it broke. Ugh! It has taken about a week for me to really start to notice, then I slid off the energy cliff. It shows in a lack of desire to get things done. I want to sleep. I feel depressed. I am in a fog. I keep trying to shake myself out of the funk. It just won’t leave. It is a testament to the importance of nutrition.
Why does my kefir smoothie provide so much energy?
I believe it is because I fill it with nuts and seeds and other good things. Here is the recipe so you can see for yourself:
Power Smoothie Recipe:
Fill blender with:
– 2 c homemade kefir (I only make 2 cups at a time so I rinse out my jar with about 1/2 cup water to get all that yummy goodness out.)
– Frozen fruit (the amount and variety that you like)
– Good handful of greens (Your choice. I like to keep a Costco size ziplock bag in the freezer. I break some off and shake it in.)
– 1 T each: flax, chia, hemp seeds
– 1/8 c nuts of choice
Squirt of maple syrup
Dash of allspice
Blend altogether in a high power blender till smooth.
How do you enjoy your kefir? Share in the comments below.
Enjoy! ????
